Burning envy of Moore-wannabesMichael Moore credits the opening-weekend success of
Fahrenheit 9/11 to his enemies. USA Today
called the film’s box office takings “astounding”. Moore himself said they were “mind-blowing”. “Over its first weekend, one in every two
tickets sold in the US was for Moore's movie,” said the SMH. "They're all getting a Christmas card from me this
year," said Moore of his enemies.
Somebody who might fall into that category is Tim Blair, whom Lateline
sound-bit on Friday night. Michael Moore calls himself a satirist when he wants to use that
excuse of "I don't have to be all factual and correct, "I am trying
to make a joke here, I'm trying to be entertaining". But then he also wants to claim that he is telling the pure truth,
that he is to be believed and he is an honest man. He wants it both ways. Tim Blair is just a Sydney suburban blogger and Michael
Moore is an internationally renowned filmmaker and author. Which is presumably why Blair feels no
need to apply his admirable high standards to his own work. |
